Municipal Manager’s Corner
Thursday, 20 March 2008

Musina Municipality is riding the crest of success. Apart from being declared the best-run local municipality in Limpopo during the 2007 Provincial Vuna Awards, we pride ourselves by countless achievements we made in 2007. This is because of our track record of good governance and high standards of committed, political and administrative leadership.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank community members who play tireless roles to make sure that our municipality grows from strength to strength on daily basis. Municipal officials alone cannot succeed in creating a better life for all. They need support from YOU, to make sure that our service delivery dreams become a meaningful reality.

We are also proud to announce that we have completed our Local Economic Development Strategy, which is part of our Integrated Development Plan (IDP). The strategy identifies tourism, mining and agriculture as the key economic activities that will provide huge economic growth.

We are doing everything possible to eliminate the problem of housing shortage in our municipality. We are proud to say that 685 houses are under construction, although some of them have already been completed. Construction for the 50 disaster houses is already in progress and we strongly believe that this will be a permanent relief to those community members whose houses are sinking.

Through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant, we pride ourselves about different municipal projects, which will change the lives of our people for the better. The projects include the High Mast Community Lighting, the solid waste upgrade, upgrade of cemetery, Civic Centre Extension, Nancefield Concrete Road, Madimbo Storm Water, Community Hall, to name but a few.

We are also proud to announce that the Spirulina project has delivered 8280 units to the value of R320 000 to the traders in December last year. This clearly indicates that we are traveling to the right direction in our quest to improve the lives of our people through job creation.

It is only through unity that we can build this Municipality to become a shining example of success throughout the country.
