The Mayor of Musina, Cllr Mihloti Muhlope led by example by making her Covid 19 test results public. Muhlope was tested and her results were negative.
She said she wanted to encourage the people of Musina to play their part in the fight against the spread of coronavirus. Muhlope said there is no other way that people will ever know their status without being tested.
She assured community members that she will continuously take the tests to inspire the public to become ambassadors against the pandemic. “It is clear that we are still going to live with this virus for some time. It is important for us to make sure that we minimize the transmission rate by contributing towards the curbing of this virus.”
Muhlope said when she took the test, she was not exposed and she did not have any symptoms. “I had to go certain medical procedures and it was important for me to know my status before I go for those medical procedures. It was a pleasure to know that my results were negative but I told myself that it was not a guarantee that one will never catch the virus. The results are just a wakeup call for me to intensify my fight against this pandemic on behalf of all the people of Musina. We are living in a very difficult time and each one of us must play a role until things get back to normal.”
She encourages community members never to compromise on the precautionary measures to curb the spread of Covid 19. “Being on lockdown level three and the relaxation of some of the regulations does not mean that we should relax our fight against the virus. The regulations are there to protect us, not to punish us. We should always put our masks on whenever we leave our homes. Washing our hands regularly and sanitising should be the order of the day. We are also encouraged to stay at home as much as possible and only go out when it is absolutely necessary.”
