The Musina Municipality Traditional Leaders Consultative Forum Meeting – broadly known as the Mayor/Mahosi Forum – recently convened at the historic Mapungubwe National Park. Hosted by Musina Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Nkhanedzeni Godfrey Mawela, the strategic engagement brought together senior traditional leaders and various municipal stakeholders to strengthen cooperative governance in Musina. By choosing the iconic world heritage site of Mapungubwe as the venue, the meeting highlighted the deep historical, cultural, and geographic ties binding the municipal administration and the custodian traditional authorities of the land.
The primary focus of the forum was to accelerate efficient service delivery and to bridge the gap between local government and traditional communities. During the session, Mayor Mawela emphasized that because politicians do not own land, structural development and municipal services can only be successfully deployed through robust collaboration with the Mahosi, who serve as the true custodians of the soil. The collaborative platform allowed traditional leaders to directly voice localized community concerns – ranging from infrastructure needs to resource allocations – ensuring that traditional governance and municipal planning work hand in hand to improve the lives of Musina residents.
